Natural Paths Acupuncture

Healing is a process, not an event—and my practice is designed for people who understand that. As an acupuncturist and former registered nurse with more than two decades of clinical experience, I help patients in Vancouver, Washington recover from neurological issues like TBI, chronic headaches, and neuropathy, as well as women’s health, digestive, and emotional health concerns, and of course pain anywhere in the body. I work best with individuals who want a thoughtful, consistent treatment plan and who are committed to restoring their health over time. I feel that healing is most effective when you feel supported, and understood.  If you’re ready to partner with a seasoned clinician who can help you make real, lasting improvements, I’d love to work with you.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting skinny needles through the skin at specific points on the body to different depths. This practice stimulates specific areas called acupuncture points or acupoints, corresponding to different internal organs, systems, or structures. This stimulation helps regulate the body's flow of energy, called "Qi" (pronounced "chee"), to promote healing and alleviate pain and other symptoms.

From the Western medicine perspective, acupuncture affects many physiological systems, like the nervous system, immune system, and circulatory system. It triggers the release of neurotransmitters, endorphins, and other substances. This may help reduce pain, promote relaxation, and improve overall well-being.

About Me

I have been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years with medical experience in critical care, hospice, home health and community nursing. I became interested in acupuncture while having my own health challenges that western medicine seemed unable to heal and, at times, made worse.

When I experienced what acupuncture did for me, I had to learn how it worked. What I found in acupuncture was a Natural Path back to health and am deeply in awe and appreciation of this medicine. I have successfully treated various physical, emotional and chronic medical issues.

Specialties

Electro Acupuncture

This is a technique where during an acupuncture session, certain points may be

stimulated by mild electrical current to bring relief from symptoms such as

pain. It provides sensory input into the acupoints and channels.

Cupping

This is a method of treating disease with a vacuum created in a plastic or glass

jar and applied to skin. It draws up the underlying tissues and brings more blood

flow to an area.

Gua Sha

A traditional Chinese method where a smooth edged tool is stroked up or down

channels on the skin. It helps to bring improved blood flow and movement within

the tissues and channels. This method is very effective for Chronic pain.

Tuina

A form of Chinese medical massage. It brings both warmth and movement to the

tissues of the body. It helps clear blockages and opens up the channels.

Frequently asked questions:

What happens during the first visit?

Your first appointment is about 90 minutes so we can take our time.

Here’s what you can expect:

1. Conversation about your symptoms, history, and goals

2. A whole-person look at what’s going on in your body

3. A clear and realistic plan for moving forward

4. Your first treatment, where you’ll rest on a warm, comfortable table

Most people feel a deep sense of relaxation during the session. It is very common to fall asleep.

What kinds of problems do you help with?

Many people come to me when they’re frustrated, discouraged, or tired of feeling the way they feel. They want real, lasting change— not just a quick fix.

I commonly help people with:

• Chronic or nagging pain (back, neck, shoulders, knees, feet)

• Headaches and migraines

• Neuropathy and post-concussion symptoms

• Digestive issues (bloating, IBS, constipation, reflux)

• Menopausal symptoms, PMS, and hormonal shifts

• Anxiety, overwhelm, irritability, and stress

• Sleep struggles and fatigue

• Feeling “off” or out of balance

If your body hasn’t been responding to other methods of care, this work is often the missing piece.

How often will I need to come?

Real healing takes consistency. Most people need a series of about 12 visits to create meaningful and lasting change, especially if the issue has been present for a while.

For acute flare-ups or sudden injuries, we may begin with twice a week for a short period, then shift to once a week. It takes time to change a pattern and acupuncture builds on itself.

What will my healing journey be like?

Healing rarely moves in a straight line. As your body adjusts, you may notice:

• A gradual decrease in symptoms

• Better energy or sleep

• Temporary ups and downs

• Old patterns beginning to loosen

Your body is learning a new way of functioning, and that takes time and support. We’ll also talk about simple lifestyle or daily habits that can help your progress between appointments.

This is a collaborative process, and I am here to guide and support you.

How does this kind of treatment work?

Your body is always trying to bring itself back into balance. Sometimes it just needs a clear, consistent nudge in the right direction.

Treatment helps calm the nervous system, improve circulation, and support your body’s natural healing processes. We are helping your system remember how to function in a more balanced, comfortable way.

Does it hurt? What does it feel like?

Most people are surprised by how gentle treatment feels. You may notice a mild ache, warmth, or heaviness for a moment, but nothing sharp or uncomfortable. Many people describe it as “my whole body exhaling”.

Do you take insurance?

I only accept TriWest Insurance for VA veterans and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Personal Injury claims.

I do not accept other insurance plans. I can provide you with a Super Bill for you to submit for reimbursement to your insurance carrier directly.

Many patients choose this care because they want results that go beyond what quick or insurance-limited care can provide.
